The Reason for the Season

Isaiah 9:6
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Depending on how you view it the Christmas season is here and this season brings a multitude of emotions. Many of these emotions are positive, joyful, to some the emotions are coupled with fear, anxiety, and confusion about the future. According to behavioral research, December is the season where most memories about love ones and good old days are remembered. To some who had experienced loss suffered the most that leads to depression. Financial standing and basic needs also amplified the hopelessness and despair. People will do all kinds of things in an effort to relieve guilt. They'll take drugs, they'll get drunk, and they'll try therapy or even go to Entertainment world. Some douse it by being a workaholic. Anything to cover up the things they wish had not happened in their lives. The truth is, however, there is only one solution for our guilt----forgiveness.

Questions
  1. Have you ever asked why Christmas is such a big deal?
  2. What difference does it really make?

It makes a difference because Christmas reminds us the amazing truth on how wonderful the Savior is and what He provides for us on a daily basis. It's because he was no ordinary baby. The Bible tells us that the God of creation came to earth. John puts it this way in that most known and beloved of scripture verses, John 3: 16:"God loved the world so much that He gave his Son. God's gift for us during the Christmas Season or any season for that matter is the gift of purpose, strength, joy, salvation and hope found only in Christ, when He gave the greatest gift of when He gave Jesus.

Whatever our view about Christmas the truth is, this is the day that Lord has made for the Savior to be born to be with us Emmanuel. He gave the greatest gift of all when He gave Jesus. And this what makes Christmas different from any other day.

It was the week before Christmas. Parking spaces were hard to come by. There were long lines, crowded stores, rude people, and grossly inflated prices. In one long checkout line, one man was heard to say, "They should kill the guy who started Christmas." One wise and godly woman in the line said, "They did- they hung Him on a cross."

Thant’s the REAL Christmas message.

The gifts that we exchange at this time of year are as nothing compared with the total self-giving love that God gives us every moment of our lives, this makes Christmas different.
